- Description: A familiar shore, another season. Returning to a place means noticing what has changed, and what we remember.

White shapes gather against a dark stretch of water. At first the eye follows one body, then begins seeing the spaces between them: a narrow passage, an opening, a loose line that will change as soon as anything moves.

Returning to an image makes another arrangement possible. A detail that seemed peripheral becomes the center. The first reading remains available, but it no longer occupies the whole frame. Familiarity gives attention something to move away from.

The same is true of a place. A shore remembered in bright weather is encountered under a lower sky. The path is recognizable, while the view has shifted in distance and color. Memory supplies a comparison, and the present keeps refusing to match it exactly.

Some of that difference belongs to the person returning. A route taken quickly on one visit becomes somewhere to stay. The bench that barely registered before offers a useful position from which to watch the water.

Repeating a photograph in a sequence can draw this change into view. The picture is identical; what comes before it has altered. A familiar shape returns with the weight of another image still beside it.

There is no need to settle which encounter was the truest. Each holds its own amount of light and attention. The way back is familiar enough to follow, and different enough to leave something for another visit.
